Political Banter & Women's Rights

62

As a 1930s wife, I am
Superior

Take the test!

I'm funny about where I stand on women's lib controversies. I think it's great women have the rights they do now, that they are considered more or less equal to men, that they can hold the jobs they want, and even run for president.

I just don't think that they should exercise the liberties. :oX

Honestly, I believe a woman's place is in the home, caring for her children, keeping the house clean, preparing meals for her family, and creating an all around pleasant environment for her husband to come home to. I don't think women should be passing their kids off to daycare in seek of "higher fulfillment" from out-of-home jobs, working up the corporate ladder while their kids and husbands are left to fend for themselves.

Women should teach their girls the tools the need to eventually be good wives, and impart wisdom to their sons to create future husbands. It seems sometimes that parents forget that they are raising what will soon be adults! Of course, husbands ought to be (ideally) supporting their families, but that's not always possible (or the husband just doesn't really want to.)

So yeah. I think it's great that, in theory, women can do anything men can do. I don't doubt that we can. But I don't think we ought to be out there proving it, I think we should be doing what is even more important - raising future generations. There's a handful of verses in the Bible (Titus, I think it's around chapter 2?) that talk about all the things a wife ought to be. Women should read stuff like this more often (I'm not even a Christian, and don't think one has to be in order to benefit from reading the Bible.) Just because our place is in the home doesn't make us any less important, or any less appreciated!

I'm sure this post will irritate a lot of people, but hey, it's my blog. :-)

I should make note of the fact that I nearly fail in my endeavor to be a great wife on an almost regular basis. There are times that my husband texts me to let me know he's on his way home from work, and I'm racing around the house putting make-up on and brushing my teeth and putting the children in clothes instead of pajamas. Dinner is sometimes leftovers, or even worse, I just suggest we should go out because I don't feel like washing dishes. The house isn't always clean, the children are sometimes allowed to run wild... but hey, at least I'm trying!

In other news, my dad figured out that I'm a democrat yesterday at breakfast. How on earth he JUST figured that out is beyond me, but suddenly he's concerned with my political views and is forwarding me dozens of emails about "why Obama is bad". My husband should be quite pleased.

Damn Republicans.

Check out "womenagainstsarahpalin.org".... it's worth having a look at.

Your blog didn't irritate me, in fact it left me wanting :) I would -love- to only be a SAHM. One thing holding me back is my education - my parents paid for me to go to undergrad and grad school. I'd feel guilty that I let all their hard-earned money go to waste. My mom was a SAHM. In some respects, I am too, I only work 6 hours a week right now and my mom watches Andrew, so no daycare, etc. I just wish i didn't have to go to work at all. When I'm not working, I feel more like "working" around the house. When I do work, I just get so tired. I dunno, sometimes I just feel lazy! :(

LOLOL Julie.... your blog doesn't make you SOUND like a Democrat... you SOUND just like a Republican! Maybe you're really a Republican wanna be... and just don't know it! And I love that you are quoting the Bible... progress is being made, and someday you WILL be able to say that you ARE a Christian. Maybe you are right now, and just won't admit it! ;-P

I totally agree with you on your views on women, being stay at home moms and taking care of their children. I totally advocate that...

But..... I LOVE SARAH PALIN!! She has energized us Republicans, and I think she'd make a great VP. Her husband will be assuming the role of "wife" in their household... which I think is great!

I'm not at all irritated... I love reading what you write. I love that you know your own mind. Wonderful!!!

I agree with you...I think that a woman's "job" is to provide a wonderful safe environment for their family's! I have different political views than you, but that is the way the world works! I respect you and I apprecitate that you can speak your mind! You go girl!

Julie, I read that link. I caution you not to believe all the left wing liberal propoganda & media slant that runs through that link... Check things out on snopes or urban legends... And be careful not to believe everything you hear in the mainstream media. They're completely biased to the democrats... Just a word of caution.

I think we must be sisters LOL The night Palin was nominated was not a pretty night here...Dave is Republican...I am a democrat and a Chrisitian...Dave prefers independent to democrat...I totally agree with everything you said in your post and Titus 2 and Proverbs 31 are the verses I strive to be.

I agree and disagree at the same time. I wish I could be a stay at home mom. But that just isn't an option for me.

But not all women want to be mothers. And I do believe same sex couple should be allowed to have families. Both women would not be able to stay home.

Being a working mom does not mean I don't give my all to my children. They are my world. And their well-being is always my top priority.

I'm not a republican or a democrat. I feel I have too many conservative veiws to be a democrat, and too many liberal views to be a republican. I agree that Sarah Palin is a horrible choice for VP. And John McCain is just as bad a choice for president as Bush was.

Looks like you unintentionally opened the proverbial can o worms here. It seems as though the consensus is that most of us agree with you that we would all love to be SAHM's. Unfortunately, in this day and age and in our present economic state our men cannot always provide for us on their own. There is no other alternative for me than to work. I fortunately have a job that allows me as much leeway as I need to give my daughter everything and I am home 15 minutes after she gets home from school. Again...would love to home school her...cant afford to not work. But I would never sacrifice my daughter's health and well-being for me to work. She is my life and when I am home she is nurtured as if I didnt have to be away from her.
As for the politics..I will have to agree to disagree...can't wait to see Sarah Palin be the dark horse that finally derails the Obama train....We shall see.

Again...love reading your blogs..and love the opportunity to banter a bit about my views on things. Thanks.....

I know I'm one of the lucky ones, that gets to stay home with my kids, and I know more women want to, but aren't able to financially.

I guess my thing is more that I don't understand the women who choose to have a small brood of children, and then happily take up their job again because they *want to have a big career, and leave their children with daycare and babysitters for too much of the day.

I know not many people can afford for a mom to stay home this day in age. I applaud the women who search to find jobs that don't take any more of them than is necessary, so that they can still take care of their children as much as possible.
